Places to turn, beyond us

We're peer support, not therapy. These are the lines, groups and books our members point each other toward. Nothing here is sponsored.

If today feels unsafe

Free, confidential, and open right now.

Organisations that understand your kind of loss

Peer groups, helplines and local meetups.

Practical things nobody warns you about

The paperwork side of loss, in plain language.

  • Closing accounts and notifying agencies

Order 8-12 certified death certificates. Most banks, insurers and government offices need an original.

  • Social media and digital accounts

Most platforms offer memorialisation or deletion. Do it only when you're ready — there's no deadline.

  • Going back to work

Ask for a phased return if you can. Choose one colleague to tell, and let them tell the rest.

  • The first anniversary

Decide in advance how you'll spend it. A plan you can cancel is easier than an empty day.

Books members keep recommending

No timelines, no five stages.

  • It's OK That You're Not OK — Megan Devine

    Grief without the fixing.

  • The Year of Magical Thinking — Joan Didion

    On losing a spouse.

  • H Is for Hawk — Helen Macdonald

    On losing a parent, sideways.

  • Bearing the Unbearable — Joanne Cacciatore

    Short chapters for heavy days.
